Letter to the Editor: Accept an expert’s advice

By Frank Rottinghaus, Charles City

None of us are experts in every field and successful people know when to seek out and follow an expert’s advice.

Robert Redfield, director of the United States Centers for Disease Control, is an expert in the field of epidemiology. In an interview on Tuesday, July 16, Dr. Redfield stated, “I think if we could get everybody to wear a mask right now, I think in four, six, eight weeks we could bring this epidemic under control.”

It’s obvious to me that we will not reach a point that is close to our normal activities at work or at school until people can see that this epidemic has been controlled. Let’s try. If Dr. Redfield is right, we only have four, six or eight weeks of the minor inconvenience of wearing a mask to endure.
