Letter to the Editor: Thanks for derecho relief effort support

I write this letter to the editor in sincere and deep appreciation to the citizens of this area for their overwhelming generosity these past two weeks at Rotary’s Derecho Trailer Relief effort for the Cedar Rapids area.

The first week the trailer was filled from top to bottom and front to back, as well as the back of a truck bed. When driven to Marion for delivery, it was met with tears of heartfelt appreciation by members of that community. When it was learned that there was still such a need for food, water, toiletries, diapers, etc., the Charles City Rotary Club decided to run the trailer another week.

I could not believe the amount of goods and cash which came through yet a second week. Both weeks the money received was spent locally and the goods placed in the trailer. Although there is no way to determine the exact amount of goods taken to the Cedar Rapids area, I think it is safe to say that THOUSANDS of dollars of goods have been contributed to the storm victims of the Cedar Rapids area.

The Charles City Rotary Club thanks this community and surrounding area for its tremendous support in this effort. This community has taken care of its neighbors, which is what we are called to do. May God bless each and every one of you for sharing your time, talents and treasures for those in need.
