Staff Report

The bats that Rockford’s girls softball team is using should be considered weapons of mass destruction.

In just three innings against Garner-Hayfield/Ventura Thursday night, the Lady Warriors scored 14 runs before the game was mercifully put to an end for a 14-1 final

The night before against Osage, Rockford rolled to an 11-0 victory in six innings.

So the Lady Warriors have scored 25 runs in a span of nine innings.

Wait! Math error.

With the game against GHV lasting only 2 and 1/3 innings and previous against the Green Devils going 5 and 1/3 innings before stoppage, the output actually was amassed in just 7 and 2/3 innings.

In Thursday’s game, Marisa Norby hit her second homer in as many days as well as tripling

Against Osage, Norby was 3-for-3 with a double to go with her homer, and drove in two runs.

Norby also was the winning pitcher in both games, yielding one hit and striking out four in six innings against Osage, and giving up three hits and one run in three innings work against GHV.

Carrigan Schmitt homered and drove in three runs, and Skylar Schmitt was 2-for-3 with a double and a pair of RBIs against GHV

Kylie Vollbrecht also went 3-for-3 against Osage while rapping two doubles and driving in a pair of runs.

Rockford leadoff hitter Alyssa Staudt had a triple and RBI against GHV, and was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI against Osage.

The overall effort improved Rockford’s record to 8-3.

The Lady Warriors will likely have a more difficult task ahead of them tonight when they travel to Allison to take on Northeast Iowa Conference rival North Butler.

The Bearcats (6-2) are ranked in the Top 15 in Class 1A according to the latest Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union listings. They are also undefeated (4-0) in the NEIC.

The Lady Warriors have a 3-2 conference record.
