Comet bowlers roll over Cyclones

By John Burbridge sports@charlescitypress.com

TRIPOLI — Friday’s varsity double-dual bowling meet between Charles City and Denver at Panther Lanes wasn’t exactly a shootout.

The scores were modest, at least by Charles City’s standards, yet the Comets were still able to roll over the Cyclones with a pair of one-sided victories.

The Comet girls won their meet, 2,375 to 1,707 to improve to 2-0 for the season. The Comet boys were just as dominant in their 2,930 to 2,297 win for their first victory of the season.

Charles City freshman Cael Bohlen, grandson to head coach Doug Bohlen, led all varsity bowlers with a two-game 402 series (200, 202) while leading off for the Comet boys. Through two meets, Bohlen is carrying a 200 average.

Cade Schmidt bowled a 211 in his second game to finish the next-best series for the Comets (391).

In the Baker Rotation, the Comets boys bowled a 257 in the third game while averaging more than 205 in the five games.

Senior Madison Ross led the Comet girls with a two-game 383 series that included a 228 in the second game.
