CHARLES CITY — Three foursomes of varsity golfers headed into Cedar Ridge’s back 9 during Tuesday’s 18-hole boys meet between Oelwein and hosting Charles City.

And they were never seen again.

At least that may have been the growing fear for someone waiting for them back at the clubhouse as the sun was starting to set with still no sign of their return.

It may have been the ideal golf weather that was the culprit as the high school golfers shared the course with more than a handful of duffers, some of whom were out swinging for the first time this year.

Needless to note, that didn’t help the expediency of play.

Good news is they all made it back safely just as the stars were starting to shine, and the Comets won easily, 353 strokes to Oelwein’s 422.

Senior Carter Johnanningmeier led the Comets with an 85 followed by Atticus Parrott (88), Colton Slinger (89) and Jack Molstead (91).

The Huskies got a medalist 82 score from Jacob Mahloch.
* After a tough scoring night Friday in a home loss to Waverly-Shell Rock, the Charles City girls golf team rebounded in a dual win over hosting Oelwein at Hickory Creek on Tuesday.

Marissa Daniels led the way with a 51 followed by Sarah Mitchell (54), Hope Slinger (55) and Kara Hoffman (59).
