HAMPTON — It’s ad nauseam to state that every shot counts.

But that doesn’t make it less true.

At Saturday’s Hampton-Dumont Invitational, Charles City boys golf team breathed a sigh of relief when the final golfer from Iowa Fall-Alden made it back to the clubhouse with a score that adjusted the Cadets’ overall score to 351.

The Comets’ overall score was 350, good enough for first place in the five-team field.

Charles City senior Jackson Molstead led the way with an 18-hole score of 84. Atticus Parrott shot an 86, and Tait Arndt and Skyler Houdek each shot 90s to round out the carded scorers for the Comets.

“Overall, it was a balanced effort,” Charles City head coach Dave Williams said.

For the Comets, it was a “3-peat” of H-D Invite championships with previous wins in 2018 and 2017. In 2016, Charles City placed second.

Individual medalist honors went to Forest City’s Tyler Clouse, who shot a 78 for the third-place Indians (370).

RJ Ford was runner-up (79) for the Cadets.

North Butler senior Beau Thompson placed third among individuals with an 80.
