Comets defeat Vikes, 5-3, in rare Sportmen’s Park home game

CHARLES CITY — Taking advantage in what has become an increasingly rare opportunity to play at home — that is at Sportsmen’s Park — the Charles City Comets baseball team defeated Northeast Iowa Conference rival Decorah, 5-3, on Tuesday night.

The Comets once again got a strong outing from junior right-hander Tait Arndt, who yielded 2 earned runs in 6 2/3rd innings while striking out seven.

Senior Cole Reams came in relief the seventh to record the final out of the game.

Reams also had two hits, including a double. He also had a sacrifice bunt.

Freshman Ians Collins also had two hits including a double; Colton Slinger and JJ Ritter had two hits, and Jace Cajthaml drove in 3 runs for the Comets, who improve to 6-3 and 5-1 in the NEIC.

Drake Shelton and Cael Luzum each had two hits with doubles for the Vikings (2-7, 0-4).

Next game for Charles City will be at home against Dike-New Hartford on Friday.
