Baseball district brackets have been drawn

Good news for the Charles City Comets.
They will have the home-field advantage while playing hosts for the Class 3A Substate 3-District 6 baseball bracket.
The games will take place at Wartburg College’s Hertel Field in Waverly, which for the past several years has served as the Comets’ home field on occasion when the field at Sportsmen’s Park was unplayable.
Charles City will face Clear Lake at 5 p.m. July 19 in the semifinals.
The two teams met at the beginning of the season when the Lions roared to a 14-4 victory stopped after six innings.
Thus far the loss to Clear Lake was the only time the Comets were defeated by way of the mercy rule.
The winner of that game will face the winner of the Hampton-Dumont-vs.Waverly-Shell Rock semifinal at 7 p.m. July.
The Substate 3-District 6 champion will face the Substate 3-District 5 champion at 7 p.m. July 24 at the home field of the higher-ranked team.
Teams included in the District 5 bracket include Decorah, Center Point-Urbana, Iowa Falls-Alden, and Cedar Rapids Xavier, which is the No. 1 ranked Class 3A team going into this past weekend.
In the Class 1A-District 5 bracket Nashua-Plainfield will play Rockford at Rockford in the quarterfinals at 7 p.m. June 13. The winner from that game plays the winner of the AGWSR-vs.-Saint Ansgar game in the semifinals at 7 p.m. July 16 at Saint Ansgar.
In the other side of the Class 1A-District 5 bracket, North Butler will take on Riceville at 5 p.m. July 13 at Saint Ansgar. The winner from that game plays the winner of the Janesville-vs.-Clarksville in the semifinals at 5 p.m. July 16 at Saint Ansgar.
