Comet bowlers stay hot and undefeated

Press Staff Report
WEST UNION — Rolling award and/or record-breaking scores in your own house is one thing. To continue to stay hot in another house on a completely different surface is another thing.

A week after Charles City sophomore Cael Bohlen tied a Comet team record with a near-perfect 299 game and reset a school mark with a two-game 569 series at Comet Bowl, Bohlen followed up with a 474 series (217-257) during Friday’s road meet against North Fayette Valley at Lilac Lanes.

A little different from Comet Bowl’s wooden-lane surface, Lilac Lanes has newly installed synthetic lanes which have become more popular among newer and renovated bowling establishments.

With Cade Schmidt’s 433 series followed by Dillan Ross (376), Noah Reams (374 and Nathan Schultz (371), and the five-game baker rotation round, the Comets’ overall score was 2,876. Though a little shy of the team’s record-setting 3,279 total from the week before, it was more than 600 pins better than NFV as the Comets remain undefeated after three meets.

The Comet girls also are undefeated after Sarah Mitchell (349), Brianna Ross (333), Josyln Cotton (373), Imigin McHenry (263) and Heather Viers (260) helped compile a team score of 2,276 — more than 300 pins better than hosting TigerHawks.

Charles City won’t be back in action until next year with an away meet against Decorah at Oneota Lanes on Jan. 10.
