Game On! Comet football team back in action this Friday

To The Press

Last Friday, the Charles City Community School District announced that the Charles City football team was to resume practice the following Monday in preparation to resume play this Friday (Sept. 18) when the Comets travel to Manchester to take on defending Class 3A state champions West Delaware.

The Hawks (3-1) lost to Decorah 31-27 last Friday — Decorah is due to be Charles City’s Homecoming Game on Sept. 25.

The Homecoming Game is due to be the first home game for the Comets this season. After losing to New Hampton in the season opener, Charles City’s following two home games against Union Community and Western Dubuque were cancelled when several Charles City players tested positive for COVID-19.

According to the district’s release, clearance requirements for a student tested positive for COVID-19 are to “complete their quarantined and be 24 hours with no fever (without the use of fever-reducing medicine)”,  have symptoms that are improving with at least 10 days since symptoms started; and if no symptoms, have 10 days elapsed from the day of test.

Also, the release states that “all Charles City High School athletes are required to perform an online daily COVID check prior to participating in practice. Players must pass the COVID check two consecutive days before a practice. All football players will need to pass checks on Varsity Bound Sunday and Monday in order to participate on Monday.”

Though the varsity football game against the Hawks is tentatively on, Charles City’s ninth-grade football game against West Manchester (Sept. 17) has been cancelled.
