IOWA FALLS — After overcoming a late deficit and tying the game at 72 through four quarters, the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets went on to defeat the visiting Charles City Comets 81-78 in overtime on Tuesday.

The Comets had a 4-point lead (71-67) going into the final minute of regulation, and briefly led during the added period, but the Cadets were able to pull it out while improving to 3-1.

The Cadets got much of their offense from Nolan Frohwein and Karson Sharer, who combined efforts for 54 points with respective individual totals of 29 and 25 points.

Sharer, a senior this season, scored 45 on the Comets when the two teams played last season. It was the most individual points scored against Charles City all last season, but the hosting Comets were victorious in that game.

Senior JJ Ritter and sophomore Chase Low both led the Comets with 17 points, and junior Jose Hernandez scored a career-high 13 points in Tuesday’s loss which dropped Charles City to 1-2 for the season.

In Charles City’s three games this season, Ritter has led or co-led the Comets in scoring.

Both Charles City’s boys and girls basketball teams will start the Northeast Iowa Conference portion of their schedules on Friday (Dec. 11) with games against Oelwein.

NOTE: The Comet boys will be playing their frosh/jayvee/varsity tripleheader at Sacred Heart Church, 628 S. Frederick Ave., Oelwein.

The girls will be playing at Comet Gym.
