Comets boys draw Crestwood, Comet girls draw Mason City in basketball postseason openers

The Charles City Comets boys basketball will get the chance to play the Crestwood Cadets for the third time in a little more than two weeks when the teams face each other in the opening round of the Class 3A-Semistate 3 bracket at 7 p.m. Feb. 22 in Cresco.

The winner advances to the semifinals to face the Decorah-vs.-Independence winner at 7 p.m. Feb. 25.

The Comets (8-11) and the Cadets (11-5) both have road victories over each other while splitting the season series.

Other teams in the bracket include Epworth, Benton Community, Waverly-Shell Rock and Wahlert.

* The Charles City girls basketball team (3-17) will play Mason City (6-11) at Mason City at 7 p.m. Feb. 17 in the first round of the Class 4A-Region 2 bracket. Winner will face Ballard at Ballard at 7 p.m. Feb. 20 in the semifinals.

Other teams in the bracket include Benton, Waterloo East and North Polk.
