Sarah Mitchell shoots medalist golf score while leading Comet girls over Vikings

Press Staff Report

CHARLES CITY — Comet senior Sarah Mitchell shot her first medalist score of her high school career while leading Charles City’s girls golf team to substantial win over Decorah at Cedar Ridge Golf Course on Monday.

Mitchell carded a season-best 9-holes score of 54.

Fellow Comet senior Hope Slinger also shot her best score of the season with a 55 — good enough for runner-up honors.

With Brinn Lahr carding a 56 and Shelby Effle (65) rounding out Charles City scores, the Comet girls recorded a team score of 230 — lowest 9-hole meet score of the season.

Decorah shot 296 as a team.

* Comet junior Trevor White, who is likely going to score even lower during by the end of his prep career, has continued to trim strokes off his 9-hole scores while picking up medalist honors in succession.

During Friday’s boys meet against New Hampton, White shot a medalist score of 41 after shooting medalists scores of 43 and 42 in meets before.

The Chickasaws were led by Kyler Glenn (42), and with three other guys shooting in the 40s, defeated the Comets 178-199.

At the Waverly-Shell Rock Invitational on Saturday, White  shot a 41 on the front 9, and a 40 on the back 9 as his 18-hole score of 81 paced the Comets, who place sixth among the eight teams participating.

The hosting Go-Hawks placed first (313) behind Hogan Hanson medalist 69 — 1-under par.

Shooting under triple-digits for the Comets were juniors Hunter Sullivan (94) and Kaleb Cotton (98).
