Sarah Mitchell gets under 50 while leading Comet girl golfers past Huskies
Press Staff Report
CHARLES CITY — Breaching 50 is almost the universal standard in sports.
You hit 50 or more home runs in a baseball season, you’re in an exclusive club no matter what the era.
You score 50 or more points in a basketball game, you’re likely going to lead off SportsCenter.
But getting under 50 in a 9-hole meet is often a sought after goal for high school golfers.
Charles City senior Sarah Mitchell medaled in her second-straight meet after shooting a 49 to lead the Comets past Oelwein (230-257), Thursday at Cedar Ridge Golf Course.
It was the lowest 9-hole score of Mitchell’s career, though she did break 50 along nine holes when she shot an 18-hole score of 99 as a sophomore at the 2019 Northeast Iowa Conference Meet.
Brinn Lahr (55), Hope Slinger (59) and Shelby Effle (67) rounded out the scoring for the Comets.
Emma Smock shot a 57 to lead the Huskies.
