CHARLES CITY — The Charles City girls tennis team shut out Clear Lake, Tuesday at Sportsmen’s Park while winning all nine of the varsity pro-set matches.

In doing so, the Comets won 73 games to the Lions’ 19.

Charles City was particularly dominant in singles play winning 48 of 56 games.

Adding that total up were No. 1 Kayla Kellogg defeating Kaley Meyer 8-2; No. 2 Nia Litterer defeating Aimee Groenning 8-3; No. 3 Heather Viers defeating Dani Mennega 8-1; No. 4 Morgan Haus defeating Whitney Finer 8-1; No. 5 Ally Faulkner defeating Emily Roberts 8-1; and No. 6 Katie Pritchard defeating Haley Jackson 8-0.

There was one close match as the No. 1 Comet doubles team of Kellogg and Viers needed to work a little overtime to finally dispatch Meyer and Groenning 9-7.

Litterer and Faulkner defeated Mennega and Finer 8-2 in No. 2 doubles, and Haus and Pritchard defeated Roberts and Jackson 8-2 in No. 3 doubles.
