Floyd County Furnace Replacement Program Aiding Flood Ravaged Residents

To the Press

The Floyd County Housing Trust Fund Furnace Replacement Program has determined that residents who lost furnaces owing to basement water caused by heavy rains and flooding are eligible for immediate assistance.

“Normally we would not install furnaces until December, when the Iowa Finance Authority determines whether we get an award” said Tim Fox, Vice Chair of the Trust Fund. “However, because of the emergency nature of residents losing furnaces, we are prepared to start installations immediately.”

Fox noted that the Charles City Area Development Corporation, which supplies the program local match dollars, is taking a financial gamble by proceeding with this year’s program in October. “The need is too great to delay implementation. We need to get people taken care of now. The Iowa Finance Authority has offered to allow trust funds to petition for reimbursement of qualified costs incurred prior the award date” stated Fox.

The Program in this instance is intended to benefit those with high insurance deductibility, those whose insurance will not cover damages and those unable to obtain assistance elsewhere. Qualified applicants will have adjusted annual incomes at or below 50 percent of median.

To obtain an application please call the Charles City Area Development Corporation at 641.228.3020 or stop by its office at 401 North Main Street, Charles City. The application is available at www.charlescityia. com.
