Warriors win one dual in Northwood

NORTHWOOD — Rockford’s Heath Farr posted wins in two weight classes and Will Portis, ranked No. 1 at 106 in Class 1A, moved up a weight class Thursday at the Northwood-Kensett triangular, helping the Warriors post one team win.

Heath Farr won by major decision, 11-0, over Caden Kratz of Newman Catholic at 195 and by an 8-7 decision over Gavin Varner of Northwood-Kensett at 220.

The Warriors defeated Northwood-Kensett 39-21 with six individual victories. The other five included pins by Chase Krueger over Logan Mix at 126 in 1:50 and Grant Staudt over Marcus Brandt at 285 in 1:36. Will Portis moved up from 106 to 113 to pin Jalin Davis at 3:46.

At 138, Rockford’s Blake Farr won a 12-5 decision over Samual Kliment. At 120, Trevor Johnson won by a 10-8 decision over Jeff Yezek.

Rockford benefited from two forfeits, at 170 and 182. The teams both forfeited at 195.

Northwood-Kensett won by pin at 132, 152 and 160 and won by decision at 145 Rockford fell to Newman Catholic 19-48.

Aside from Heath Farr’s win, the Warriors posted two other win against Newman Catholic. Rockford’s Wyatt Paulus pinned Josh Thilges at 182 in 0:52. At 285, Grant Staudt has a forfeit.

Newman Catholic won by decision at 113, 132, 145 and 125, by pin at 152, 160, 170 and 120 and forfeit at 220 and 106.

At 113, Portis pushed the No. 3 ranked wrestler in that class, Jeremiah Colon, who eked out a 12-10 decision.
