Lasher named to all-NEIC Baseball Second Team

Charles City junior Nate Lasher was recently selected to the all-Northeast Iowa Conference Second Team for baseball.

Lasher hit .300 for the season, led the Comets with 16 stolen bases, and tied senior teammate Tyler Brockney for most runs scored.

Playing mostly as a middle infielder, Lasher had a .938 fielding percentage. Lasher made 14 pitching appearances, and had a 2-2 record.

Before the baseball season, Lasher was an all-NEIC golfer and a state-qualifying wrestler.

The Comets had two other players named all-NEIC honorable mention: sophomore Theo Arndt and senior Brady Sickman.

Arndt led the Comets with a .333 batting average — he hit .365 in NEIC play — and extra-base hits. He was 12 of 12 stealing bases, and only made four errors while putting in a lot of time at shortstop.

Arndt got the honorable mention nod as an infielder, but he was also arguably the ace on Charles City’s pitching staff. He led the team in innings pitched (62), earned run average (3.73) and opponent batting average (.247).

As an outfielder, Sickman only made one error all season. On offense, Sickman led the Comets with 17 runs scored, drew 14 walks, and had a on-base percentage of .386, which was the third-best on the team behind Drew Mitchell (.422) and Arndt (.405).
