Staff Report

THURSDAY, 9 a.m.: This story was updated to correct the street name.

A kitchen fire on Ellis Drive was quickly put out with a joint effort by Charles City Police and Fire departments.

There were no injuries from the fire.

Officer Cody Van Horn was the first to arrive on the scene followed by Lieutenant Brad Worrall.

Worrall put the fire out with an extinguisher shortly after arriving.

A smoke alarm alerted the occupant of the home that there was a fire, Marty Parcher, assistant chief Charles City Fire Department.

When the occupant came out to see what was going, there was a fire from a pan on the stove, Parcher said.

Shortly after the call was made, emergency personnel were on the scene.

“In a matter of a few minutes we’ve got fire fighters, police officers and an ambulance all sitting on the scene,” Parcher said. “It’s a good system.”
