Across the land this time of year, hospitals and keepers of records release lists of the most popular baby names from the year past.

The Baby Center, which bills itself as the No. 1 online site for pregnancy and parenting information, says that more than 500,000 names of babies born in 2017 were registered with the site, and released lists of the top 100 most popular boys and girls names.

Interestingly, none of the girls born in Floyd County in 2017 have a name in the top 10 of the national list.

And only two names of boys with birth certificates issued in Floyd County last year — Noah and Elijah — are among the national top 10 most popular.

Floyd County parents are apparently not ones to follow a crowd. There were no clear favorite names for boys or girls in the list of first names from the 86 birth certificates filed in the Floyd County Recorder’s Office in 2017.

Only two girls names, Aubrey and Hailey, are repeated, with just two instances each of those among the 37 girls born in the county.

There are three boys names that are shared by 2017 babies — but only two each for those as well among the 49 boys with birth certificates filed with the recorder’s office. They are Elijah, James and Weston.

One name — Angel — is found once each on both the boys and girls lists.
