Memes and Mismatches kick off Charles City Homecoming Week

  • Charles City High School juniors Kalysta Rodriguez and Kiarra Mashek show off their “Meme Monday” outfits. They explained that it’s hard to personify a “meme,” as it is a still photo, and they were dressed as more of a “vine,” which is a meme in motion. They said that often a meme will have a message, but in their case, they were just doing it to be funny. (Press photo James Grob.)

  • It was “Mismatch Monday” at Lincoln Elementary School to kick off homecoming week, where the kids were encouraged to wear clothing that didn’t match. Several elementary students showed off their non-matching attire Monday at recess. (Press photo James Grob.)

It was “Meme Monday” at Charles City High School and “Mismatch Monday” at Lincoln Elementary School in Charles City as the school district kicked off homecoming week with the first of several dress-up days.

Each class gets points for the best dress-up day apparel, and throughout the week the points get tallied, and the students will learn Friday which class had the most spirit.

The rest of the week’s dress-up days are Tropical Tuesday, Winter Wonderland Wednesday, Character/Dynamic Duo Day on Thursday and Orange and Black Blowout on Friday for all schools. (Press photos James Grob.)
