It’s a dream come true for bookworms and bibliomaniacs who are looking to save a buck on their favorite pastime at the Charles City Lions Club book sale, which is going on through noon on Saturday.

A steady stream of readers looking for a fix poured into the east entrance of the Ace Hardware Building at 300 Gilbert St. in Charles City, some browsed the book-covered tables and others filled their carts with reading material.

The sale usually raises about $4,000-$5,000 each year for the Lions Club, and proceeds go back to the community through Lions projects. Among many other things, the club subsidizes hearing aids and eyeglasses for residents and children in the community, conducts free vision tests on preschoolers, and recycles about 800 eyeglasses a year which are sent abroad through Lions Club International.

The prices on the donated books range from 50 cents each to $4. The sale is open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
