Police arrested Jennifer Katherine Bean, age 44, of Charles City, and initially charged her with domestic abuse assault resulting in bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor, and interruption of emergency communications, a simple misdemeanor.

After further investigation, Bean was charged with attempted murder on Wednesday.

Court documents allege that Bean injected a female with insulin without her consent and then attempted to prevent the victim from making an emergency call. When the victim did call 911, Bean took the phone and hung up, records state.

Court documents say Bean attempted to commit murder by injecting insulin into the victim without her consent, which resulted in the victim having low blood sugar that if left untreated could have resulted in death.

Attempted murder is a Class B felony, punishable upon conviction by up to 25 years in prison.

Bean is being held in the Floyd County Jail on a $26,300 cash-only bond.
