A donation from the Floyd Lions Club will help some people have a little merrier Christmas this year.

The club donated $500 to the Messiah’s Food Pantry in Charles City Thursday.

The Rev. Debra Lincoln, who runs the food pantry in the back of Jordan River Church, said the money would go toward food items that have been ordered for Christmas so people can put a good meal on their holiday tables.

Lynn Elfers, the Floyd Lions Club president who presented the donation, said the money came from the club’s general funds that have been raised over the years at such events as street sales, pancake suppers and through personal donations.

“We take it and disperse it as needed,” Elders said. “When we’ve got money we like to get rid of it — we like to try to help people where we can.”
