About 18 kids got out of the house on a Saturday morning during Cabin Fever Weekend in Charles City and took part in an Escape Room at the Charles City Public Library.
According to Dana Schwickerath, the library’s youth services director, six different groups went through the Escape Room throughout the morning. The kids solved a variety of puzzles together to find Cupid’s lost candy.
“We found these clues and then we escaped,” said Cassie Kellogg, age 6 (almost 7), “One of the prizes was a book, with a card in it that said ‘love’”
The teams of four or five had to work together to solve the mysteries. Library staff members were present to assist the young challengers, while parents watched but were not allowed to help.
“First we had to open the chest and find out what was in it. We saw a box inside of the chest,” said Fiona Kellogg, age 8. “We had to look around for letters.” She added that it was a lot of fun, and nodded yes when asked if she would like to do it again sometime.
Schwickerath also said that the kids — as well as the library staff — had a good time with the Escape Room.
