New physical therapist at Synergy

The folks at Synergy Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine want to introduce their newest therapist to Charles City.

Jordan Smith, who grew up in Manchester, will start seeing patients in mid-February. It’s the first job out of college for Smith, 25, who studied kinesiology at Iowa State University and just graduated from the University of Iowa, where he studied physical therapy — so he has two major universities in the state covered.

“I guess I’ll have to take a class at Northern Iowa to complete the sweep,” Smith said.

Synergy is a privately-owned outpatient physical therapy clinic, established in 2015, with locations in Charles City and Sheffield. The Charles City location is at 318 Main Street.

“We see people of all ages, from infants all the way through end-of-life,” said proprietor Kurt Walderbach. “We treat people with various rehabilitative needs, sport injuries, things like that. When people have the need to recover from an injury of some sort, we’re there to help them out.”

Walderbach said Synergy employs nine people in Charles City, and that Smith will replace  therapist Blair Lawton, who moved.

Smith said he likes the friendly atmosphere at Synergy and in Charles City.

“I’m from a small town originally, so I think the whole small-town feel kind of felt like home,” Smith said.  “I spent the day with Kurt, and the whole culture of the clinic, and how they treated the patients, and how they build a whole relationship with the patients and the community made it feel like the right fit for me. They put patients first, and they have a lot of fun there.”
