Rhymes With Orange, the top vocal jazz group at Charles City High School, received the highest rating at the state vocal jazz choir festival for the second straight year.

CCHS vocal music director Derek Sturtevant said he was proud of the group, which performed three pieces at Iowa State Jazz Festival at Maquoketa Valley High School in Delhi on Monday.

Sturtevant said the setlist consisted of “Operator,” with soloist Ruby Peterson, “Embraceable You,” and “You Make Me Feel So Young,” featuring soloists Nathan Shultz and Olivia Wolfe.

“They received a Division I rating for the second year in a row, which is the highest rating a group can get at contest,” Sturtevant said.

This is the third year Rhymes with Orange, an audition-only student group, has existed, and just the second time the group has competed at the state jazz choir competition.
