Carnival rides, cotton candy and a mechanical bull?

You heard that right — the midway is coming back to the Floyd County Fair.

Amy Staudt, Floyd County Fair Board president, announced on Wednesday several new attractions at the fair that will take place July 17-21.

“We did not have a carnival last year. Without it a year, I think fairgoers missed it. We’re going to be back in full swing this year with more activities and more events,” Staudt said.

Staudt said Next Generation Shows Inc. will bring anywhere from 12 to 15 carnival rides that will be set up near the front of the fair. The midway will feature a variety of games and rides for children and adults.

The Floyd County Fair Board will have a mechanical bull on site as well.

Staudt said the fair is sure to be an event that all ages won’t want to miss.

“I just want everyone to know we’ve got a vacation right in Charles City at the Floyd County Fair,” she said.

Staudt said the midway will be open at the fair from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and 3 to 9 p.m. on Saturday.

This latest news for fairgoers comes after January’s announcement that the Aussie Kingdom would be appearing at the fair.

Wallabies, wallaroos, dingoes and even a python will be some of the native Australian animals that fairgoers will be able to see and interact with at the Aussie Kingdom. The Aussie Kingdom will enable fairgoers to connect with the animals on a personal level that’s part educational and part a message on conservation.

The Aussie Kingdom will be open eight hours a day during fair week and provide three shows a day.

Also back at the fair is the Floyd County Food Truck Court. Such popular food trucks as Island Grill, Get R’ Fried and Wiley Coyote Grill will be set up again this year. The Floyd County Fair will also feature the 4-H food stand as well as the Floyd County Cattlemen Association, which will be grilling hamburgers, hot dogs and pork tenderloins.
