There will be at least one contested race for a Floyd County elected office in the November elections.

Filings for persons seeking to run in the June 5 primary election closed at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Amanda Theilen, election clerk at the Floyd County Auditor’s Office, reported Thursday that no additional filings had come in by the deadline since the last filings about two weeks ago.

The one race for sure in Floyd County will be for county supervisor. There are two seats open, those currently held by Doug Kamm and Mark Kuhn. Kamm has filed for re-election and Kuhn is not seeking another term.

Three people have filed for the two open seats. In addition to Kamm, Roy Schwickerath and Stewart Dalton have filed nomination papers.

People who filed before the March 28 deadline are to run in the June 5 party primary. Since there are two supervisor seats available, there can be two people from each party listed on the ballots in November.

Kamm will be seeking the Republican nomination alone, and Schwickerath and Dalton will presumably be the Democratic choices.

Here is the list of people who have filed for the primary in Floyd County, along with their parties:

• County supervisor (two seats open) — Doug Kamm, incumbent, R; Roy Schwickerath, D; and Stewart Dalton, D.

• County attorney — Rachel Ginbey, incumbent, R.

• County treasurer — Frank Rottinghaus, incumbent, D.

• County recorder — no one filed.

Deb Roberts, the current county recorder, has said she will file to seek re-election and run as no party.

Also, Mike Staudt has announced he will seek election to one of the county supervisor seats, also as a no-party candidate.

Persons who want to run for one of the county offices but don’t want to run on a party ticket can file nomination papers Aug. 6-29.
