Primary early voting numbers up from 2016

Grant County residents made an impressive showing this year during early and in-person absentee voting, topping out primary numbers even from the intense 2016 presidential election year. Early voting ended Saturday, leading into the primary election day today.

According to Liz Gomez, of the Grant County Clerk’s Office, a total of 2,330 residents have voted so far for the primary election. In-person absentee voting drew 487 votes, and 1,536 people voted early at the Grant County Administration Center and 308 voted early at the Bayard Community Center.

Of those who voted, 1,871 were registered Democrats. Another 456 were registered Republicans. Three Libertarians voted in this primary.

Gomez said the county is up this year from 2016, when a total of just 1,683 people voted before election day.

Those who have not yet voted can do so today, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., at any one of nine “voting convenience centers.” Those will be located at the Silver City Woman’s Club, the Tyrone Community Center, the Grant County Administration Center, Cliff High School, the Pinos Altos Volunteer Fire Station, the Santa Clara National Guard Armory, Bayard Community Center, Hurley Community Center and San Lorenzo Elementary School.
