Courthouse observes President’s Day

In honor of President’s Day a celebration event will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16 in the District Courtroom of the Floyd County Courthouse. The observance celebration is being held Tuesday as the Courthouse is closed on Monday.

The celebration will feature keynote speaker Black Hawk County Auditor and Iowa State Association of Counties Historian Grant Veeder. Veeder’s presentation will address “Lincoln and Emancipation.” Also participating in the celebration will be area students. Students will read from remarks made by Senator Ralph McCartney of Charles City to the Iowa Legislature on February 12, 1973, marking the 164th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln’s birth.

The Courthouse will be decorated with student artwork. They will hand framed prints on the wall outside the county treasurer’s office — the second floor of the courthouse.
