Charles City Community School District Superintendent Dr. Dan Cox has recently been elected as the Vice President of the School Administrators of Iowa.

“(The SAI) is a professional association of superintendents, principals and central office administrators,” Cox said. “They are roughly 2,000 members strong  and advocate for educational issues and provides support for all levels of administration.”

There are three levels: elementary administration, secondary administration and superintendent and central office administration. Cox explained every three years a different level is eligible to be elected as the Vice President, ensuring that officer positions provide equal representation for SAI members.

“There is always someone (on the board) for each of the three categories,” he said.

Once elected Vice President, the electee begins their four year term. Beginning September 1, Cox will first serve as Vice President, the following year he will be the president elect, then he’ll be president and lastly holding the past president position, he said.

Wanting to share Charles City’s success and progress in advanced education is part of why Cox decided to run for Vice President.

“I think we’ve been able to accomplish pretty unique and aspiring things in Charles City,” he said. “I want to offer my service to help others go down the (same) path.”

In order to run, Cox had to submit an application to be reviewed by a panel of superintendents and central office administrators.

“An executive committee and representative council…looked at the applications then selected the superintendent of Indianola and myself,” Cox said.

Once selected, the the members of SAI were sent emails including the candidates’ biographies. SAI members were given two weeks to cast their vote. Most Cox’s role as Vice President will be to provide guidance to fellow SAI members.

“A monthly meeting takes place where we help give direction to program and service our members,” he said.

Cox looks forward to sharing all that has been accomplished in Charles City.

“I am deeply humbled and honored to have been elected as the next SAI Vice President,” he said. “I look forward to working with the SAI team to deepen the impact our organization can have on its members.”

Cox also believes that holding the SAI Vice President role will further elevate the Charles City Community School District.

“It is just one more thing to make Charles City stand out and be recognized as unique and progressive,” he said. “We really have a lof neat things going on here (besides the new building).”
