A missing 12-year-old boy was quickly recovered on Tuesday by authorities, after social media postings caught the eye of an area woman.

Initial posts reporting the boy’s disappearance by the Bremer County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Management office received 91,484 views by Wednesday morning, Sheriff Dan Pickett said.

“Social media works great because the lady happened to see the post, she called in, and we got in the area, [where] he was located without any injuries,” Pickett said. “It obviously proves that people see it. Definitely a positive thing having that out there right away.”

The boy left school grounds in Plainfield at 1:12 p.m. and was located five miles south on C33 by 3:30 p.m., on the Cedar River bridge. Assisting the county sheriff’s office were two canine units, Iowa State Troopers, the Nashua Police Department, the Nashua/Plainfield Fire Department, Bremer County Emergency Management and emergency medical personnel, as well as several volunteers, Pickett said.
