Two fatalites and one injury from train and car collision

Two fatalities were reported when a car entered the train crossing while a Canadian Pacific train was passing Friday around noon near Nora Springs.

The car, a 2016 Chevy Equinox, was heading north on Zinnia Avenue and the train was headed west, according to the report from the Iowa State Patrol.

The driver, James D. Blazier, 66, and a passenger, Dixie J. Blazier, 66, both of Harvard, Illinois, were killed in the crash. Another passenger, Glenda L. Mundis, 55, also of Harvard, was injured and taken to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City by helicopter.

The car was struck on the front passenger side, causing it to roll and come to a stop on its roof.

The train was a single engine with no cars attached.

The accident remains under investigation.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Cerro Gordo and Floyd County Sheriffs Department, the Nora Springs Police Department, Mason City Fire and EMS services and Mercy Air Medical.
