The Charles City Council handled three resolutions Monday evening dealing with buildings and the water treatment pplant.

The council renewed the lease for the Carnegie Building, where the Charles City Art Center is located. The lease was renewed for three years.

According to the agreement, Charles City, the landlord, is responsible for any repairs to the building in excess of $10,000. The Arts Council is responsible for normal maintenance as well as maintaining the lawn and landscaping.

Repairs for the city Park and Recreation maintenance building were approved by the council in the amount of $24,290 to Jensen’s N&O Construction, for replacement of the roof.

The repairs are scheduled to be finished in either the summer or spring of 2018, prior to the beginning of the next fiscal year, said Charles City Administrator Steven Diers.

Kamm Excavating completed work for a lime residual material removal project at the wastewater treatment plant, said Charles City Engineer John Fallis during the meeting.

The council approved payment of $77,324 for the project, which involved removing residual lime from one of the treatment lagoons to extend its life.

Also at the meeting a preliminary schedule for the council budgeting process was presented by Diers during his administrator report.

Diers also mentioned that Jendro Sanitation will begin to distribute the garbage and recycling totes to properties.

April 1 remains the date for totes to start being emptied by Jendro.

It was also noted at the meeting that the Broadband commission will meet at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, in the council chambers, to review Eric Lampland’s Broadband Study Report.

The next council meeting will be a planning session at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, at the City Council chambers due to Mayor James Erb having a conflict with a meeting on Wednesday, Dec 13.

The next council voting session on Dec. 18 will see Dean Andrews sworn in as mayor.
