‘Winter Tales’ hits before winter does

The Charles City Community Chamber Orchestra held the “Winter Tales” concert Sunday, directed by John Chiles and featuring Susan Bengtson as a special guest on the viola.

The concert began with the “Carol of the Bells”, followed by “Dies Irae” from Wolfgang Amadeus’ “Requiem Mass.”

They also went through “Academic Festival Overture, Op. 80” by Johannes Brahms, along with “Two Nordic Melodies No. 1 Op. 63” by Edward Greig.

Special guest Bengtson played, “Cello Suite No. 6 in D Major, transcribed for viola” by Johann Sebastian Bach, and “Sonata for Viola and Piano” by Rebecca Clarke while accompanied on piano by Seth Butler.

The event finished with Bengtson and the full orchestra playing “Fur Deinen Thron Tret Ich Hiermit” by Gioacchino Antonio Rossini, to close to out the show.
