The Charles City Police Department is investigating an alleged threat made by a female juvenile on social media Thursday night.

“We feel there is no threat to the public from this incident at this time,” the CCPD said in a statement Friday morning. “We do appreciate all the concern and help we received from the public.”

The police investigated a SnapChat post Thursday which was later posted to Facebook. The post, which was shared multiple times Thursday night on various social media outlets, showed a video of a middle school-aged female holding a gun, and there was a comment on the screen about shooting people. There were also what appeared to be yearbook photos of various students in the video.

Police said they made contact with the female and a parent, and are working with the juvenile court system. The gun was not at the female’s house, but was secured by officers from a separate location.

Police continue to work with the juvenile court services and the Floyd County Attorney on this incident, according to a statement.

“We have taken care of the situation and spoken with all parties involved,” the CCPD said Thursday evening. “The situation is resolved.”

Lynette Hackett, principal at Immaculate Conception Elementary School in Charles City, sent an email regarding the incident to parents.

“We have been made aware of a disturbing social media post by a former student,” Hackett said. “We immediately contacted the police and they are taking the lead on this situation.”

Hackett said that Immaculate Conception school officials will continue to work closely with the Charles City Police Department and will be informed as updates become available.
