He was charged with second-degree theft, a Class D felony.

Raveling originally pleaded not guilty to the charge and the case had been set for trial, but in March, his attorney filed a motion for a hearing to set a plea change.

The plea change hearing was rescheduled several times until finally being held Tuesday in Floyd County District Court.

At the hearing, District Court Judge Peter Newell confirmed that Raveling was pleading guilty voluntarily and that he understood the rights he was giving up by the plea.

The maximum penalty for conviction of second-degree theft is five years in prison and up to a $7,500 fine, plus other fees and surcharges.

As part of the agreement to plead guilty, the Floyd County Attorney’s Office is recommending that Raveling receive a five-year suspended prison sentence, three to five years probation and pay restitution of $3,769 plus other surcharges and court costs.

Newell reminded Raveling that a judge is not bound by the sentencing recommendation and he could sentence him to up to the maximum allowed penalty.

Newell ordered a presentencing investigation, which is required for this level of crime, and set a sentencing date for Feb. 22.
