Glenn SwintonGlenn Swinton, 79, of Marble Rock, passed away Monday, Aug. 15, 2016 at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City, with his family by his side.

A funeral Mass for Glenn Swinton will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016 at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Roseville with Monsignor Walter Brunkan celebrating the Mass. Burial will be at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Roseville.

Visitation will be held at the Saint Mary Social Hall in Roseville from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, where a Scripture Service will begin at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the funeral Mass on Saturday.

Glenn Alfred Swinton was born July 20, 1937 in Nashua, the son of Arthur and Alice (Usher) Swinton. He graduated from Nashua High School in 1955. After graduation, Glenn entered military service with the U.S. Navy. He received an honorable medical discharge in 1956. Glenn married his high school sweetheart, Lynette Katherine Holmes, on May 22, 1956 at St. Michael’s Parish in Nashua. They celebrated 60 years of marriage this past May with many family and friends. This union was blessed with five children.

Glenn worked numerous jobs as a Northwestern Bell Telephone Installer, Bank Teller in Nashua, Felco Cooperative Manager in Nashua, Marble Rock Farmer’s Cooperative Manager, trucked for Warren Transport out of Waterloo, White Farm, construction with Lawrence Christie, Fredericksburg Cooperative Feed Specialist and at the Marble Rock Farmer’s Cooperative as a Counterman. When Glenn retired from the counter, he began trucking for the Co-op. On Oct. 9, 2008, he was very proud to have hauled his one millionth bushel of corn to VeraSun Ethanol Plant in Charles City.

Glenn was a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Roseville. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, playing cards, meeting new friends and cheering on his favorite sports teams (most often teams his grandchildren played for). Glenn’s family meant everything to him. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the pride of his life.

Living family members include his wife of 60 years, Lynette of Marble Rock; five children: Patrick (Beth) Swinton of Minneapolis, Minn., Mitchell (Lori) Swinton of Lone Tree, Mark (Wendy) Swinton of Orinda, Calif., Ann (Lyle) Chambers of Marble Rock, and John (Jan) Swinton of Nora Springs; 18 grandchildren: Erinn Swinton, Ben (Chelsey) Swinton, Shannon (Dan) Connor, Amber (Jacob) Babcock, Evan Schafer, Ross Swinton, Samantha Swinton, Meg Swinton, Michael Swinton, Sydney Swinton, James Patrick, Eva Patrick, Katie (Zach) Kaduce, John (Michelle) Chambers, Caleb Chambers, Chelsea Chambers, Megan (Brock) Watson and Allyson Swinton; six great-grandchildren: Riley Swinton, Brysen Swinton, Kylar Swinton, Robyn Connor, Lucy Watson and Palmer Watson; sister, Ellen (Charles) Ullom of Louisville, Ken.; along with many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Wendell Swinton, Lee Swinton and John Swinton; and two nephews: Randall Swinton and Donald Swinton.
