Lowell M. Hicok

MASON CITY — Lowell M. Hicok, 82, of Mason City, died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Pastor Ed Bard, Chaplain of Hospice of North Iowa officiating.

There will be a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will take place in Sunnyside Memory Gardens in Charles City at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Lowell Hicok Memorial Fund in care of the family. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com.

Lowell was born Oct. 29, 1933, in Nashua, the son of Howard and Mabel (McElroy) Hicok. He attended school in Nashua and Charles City. On Nov. 26, 1950, he married Doris Janssen at St. John Lutheran Church in Charles City.

Over the years, Lowell worked for area contractors until he started his own business in 1974. He owned and operated Lowell Hicok Concrete Construction until his retirement in 1998.

Lowell enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed fishing, traveling, playing cards and visiting with others.

Lowell is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris Hicok of Mason City; three sons: James Hicok of Plymouth, David Hicok and wife Margo of Nora Springs, and Duane Hicok and wife Cheryl of Mason City; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister Phyllis Huxsol and husband Marvin of Charles City; brother: Bill Hicok of South Carolina; and two brothers-in-law: Gordon Janssen and wife Ann of Texas and Ed DeGoose of Britt.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Dorothy Stewart; and brother: Harold Hicok.
