Rosalie Sue Callison

Rosalie Sue Callison , 67, of Wilton, IA passed away Saturday, December 2, 2017 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s at the Wilton Retirement Community surrounded by her family. Rose was born on October 1, 1950 to Charles and Gwenyth (Hucke) Heyer of Sumner.

Rose married Steve Callison on February 28, 1970. She is survived by 4 children. Bret (Leslie) Callison of Durant, Bridget (Brad) Miller of Center Point, Bryce (Yvonne) Callison of Center Point and Brady (Kimmy) Callison of Charles City. Ten grandchildren; Leo, Lucas, Logan and Lauren Rose Callison of Durant; Owen and Audrey Miller of Center Point; Claire, Clark and Cliff Callison of Center Point and Violet Rose Callison of Charles City. Her father, Charles Heyer of Sumner; a brother, Victor (Carmen) Heyer of Lake Ozark, MO; a sister, Joan (Dan) Knight of Rochester Hills, MI, her brother-in-law Wes Callison, of Plainfield; her sister-in-law Sandy Callison of Plainfield, IA and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Gwen, her mother and father-in law Doris and Cal Callison and her brother-in-law, Terry Callison.

Rose graduated from Sumner High School in 1968. In school she was a cheerleader, homecoming queen and involved in jazz band. She spent her summers lifeguarding at the Sumner pool.

Steve and Rose lived in many towns throughout Iowa including Ames, Boone, Rockwell, Plainfield, Bronson, Durant, Colesburg, Norway, Atkins, Davenport, Sioux Center, Corning, Creston, Grand Island, NE, Cedar Rapids and Wilton as they raised their family and Steve took on different jobs in education. Rose always adapted and took positions in the different communities. With Steve she managed a swimming pool, she also was a bookkeeper, worked in retail stores and a vet office but is most remembered as a bank teller in several banks in the local communities. All of her work came second to being a devoted mother. Rose could always be seen sitting in the stands of various events of all of her children and grandchildren cheering them on. In addition, Rose loved walking, swimming, dancing, shopping, singing in the choir and always being on the go. Rose is remembered as a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Rose’s name.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 from 4-7 PM at the Bentley Funeral Home, Durant, IA.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 11 AM at the United Methodist Church in Wilton, IA.

Inurnment will take place at a later date.
