180220_J_weaver obitDorothy M. Weaver, age 95, formerly of Fargo, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2018, at Knute Nelson Nursing Home in Alexandria, MN, surrounded by her loving family.

Dorothy was born December 26, 1922, in Charles City, IA. She was the daughter of John and Ella (Herbrechtsmeyer) Klages. She graduated from Charles City High School in 1940. During World War II she took the train to California to work at Lockheed Aircraft Company. After two years she returned to the Midwest and began to work as a secretary at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, where she met her future husband Jack Weaver.  They were married January 29, 1949, and moved to Duluth, MN, in 1958, and to Fargo in 1970.

Dorothy brought good humor and a quick wit to every part of her life, and her smile and her laugh were infectious. She was close to each of her grandchildren, who spent many afternoons and weekends at her home near Lindenwood Park. Dorothy and Jack traveled frequently, and had a particular fondness for the food, music, and culture of Ireland. Dorothy also had a deep and abiding appreciation for Native American culture, which she and Jack developed while volunteering at the Hubbell Trading Post in Arizona. She taught her children and grandchildren how to embrace life with optimism, cheer, and a belief in adventure. She will be missed and loved forever.

Dorothy is survived by her sons William (Jean) Weaver of The Villages, FL, and Jim Weaver of Miami Beach, FL; daughter Kay (Mani) Ehteshami of Roseburg, OR; grandchildren Bryce (Kelsey) Weaver, Brooklyn, NY, Jillian (Travis) Russell, Oklahoma City, OK, Patrick Casey Pitts (Amit Sabnis), San Francisco, CA; and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Weaver, her parents, and her 2 brothers Karl Klages and Ralph Klages.

A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held at a future date.
