Betty Hovey, 89, of Charles City, passed away Friday, June 1, 2018 at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A funeral Mass for Betty Hovey will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City with Reverend Gary Mayer celebrating the Mass. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City.

A gathering of family and friends will take place one hour prior to the funeral Mass at the church on Tuesday.

Betty Lou Bailey, the daughter of Harold and Lucille (Logan) Bailey, was born on June 11, 1928 in Charles City, Iowa. She graduated from Sunnyvale California Fremont High in 1946. On June 11, 1948, Betty married Glenn Hovey in Charles City.

Betty and Glenn owned and operated the first convenient store in Charles City called Hovey Oil Company Kerr McGee. Betty had a passion for being a bookkeeper in the business.

Betty was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She loved taking pictures and putting them in her photo albums. She especially enjoyed being able to share her photos with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her three children: Glenda (Denny) Gifford, Geri (Mike) Frascht, and Scott (Marsha) Hovey; grandchildren: Brandy, Lacey, Nicole, Stewart, Val, Taylor, Samantha, and Katie; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn in 1995; four siblings: Boa, Donna, Merle, and Darlene; parents; and great-granddaughter, Amelia.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the American Cancer Society.
