Lorraine I. Carter

The funeral service for Lorraine I. Carter, 86 of McIntire, IA will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 8, 2018 at Pleasant Grove Church of Christ in Pleasant Grove, MN with Rev. Lance Lorenz officiating. Mrs. Carter died on Sunday, June 3, 2018 of natural causes at the Stewartville Care Center in Stewartville, MN where she had been a resident for the past 2 months.

Lorraine Isabel DeVries was born near Elma, IA on July 14, 1931 to Jacob and Louise (Cordes) DeVries. She grew up on the family farm, and attended Colwell school nearby. Lorraine was married on Nov. 20, 1950 to Dale Carter while he was serving in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Norfolk, VA. Following Dale’s discharge, the couple moved to Colwell, IA where they farmed and raised their family for the next 16 years. The Carter Family moved to Red Wing, MN where they owned and operated the King Koin Laundromat for 8 years. In 1976 they moved to the Carter Family farm near McIntire, IA where they farmed until their retirement. Lorraine and Dale attended Pleasant Grove Church of Christ and eventually moved to Stewartville in 2016 to live near family. Lorraine enjoyed traveling with her husband, fishing, gardening, bird watching, artwork and taking care of their faithful animal companions on the farm. She loved visiting with friends and was generous giving hugs. Her faith and her family were her greatest treasures.

Lorraine is survived by her husband- Dale, and her daughter- Connie (Tom) Mariette of Prescott, WI; daughter-in-law – Pamela (Jerry) Wendt of Spring Valley, MN;; her grandchildren – Tim (Kris) Mariette of River Falls, WI; Dustin (Susanna) Mariette of Faribault, MN, Daniel (Sydney) Mariette of St. Paul, MN; Lucas (Hannah) Carter of Rochester, MN, and Shane (Carlee) Carter of Pine Island, MN, and great-grandchildren – Adeline and Eugene Mariette, and Cason Carter; 2 brothers – Richard (Shirley) DeVries of Mableton, GA, and Dale (Tami) DeVries of Hastings, MN; her sister-in-law – Betty DeVries of Castle Rock,CO. She was preceded in death by her son – Jerry, her parents, step-mother – Bess DeVries, and 1 brother – Edwin DeVries.

A time of visitation will take place from 11 a.m. to the time of the service at the church on Friday afternoon. Burial and a committal service will take place at 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon (6-8-18) at Wayne Cemetery in McIntire, IA. Online condolences are welcome at www.griffin-gray.com.
