Gerald ‘Jerry’ Lewis

Gerald “Jerry” Lewis, 68, of Charles City, formerly of Waterloo, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2018 at the Iowa City VA Health Care Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

A funeral service for Jerry Lewis will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2018 at Hauser Funeral Home with Pastor Wendy Johannesen from Grace United Methodist Church and West St. Charles United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

Visitation will be at Hauser Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2018 and continue one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Gerald Erwin “Jerry” Lewis, the son of Richard and Verla (Stocks) Lewis, was born on May 10, 1950 in Osage, Iowa. Jerry attended schools in Osage, and graduated from Osage High School. Jerry enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corp and served in Vietnam from 1968-1969. He was active in the service until 1972. In 1968, Jerry was united in marriage with Lorraine Blickenderfer, to this union two sons were born. The couple later divorced, but remained good friends.

Jerry was a pilot and a certified flight instructor. He had many other jobs including mechanic, tool and die maker, and electrician. His latest job was a maintenance supervisor at Tyson in Waterloo. He had a passion to fix, build, and fabricate anything he could.

Jerry enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his friends. He was a member of the local Harley-Davidson group (H.O.G.). He enjoyed traveling to Florida in the winters with Lorraine. He loved to spend time with his family. He also adored his two cocker spaniels, especially Buddy.

Living family members include his significant other, Lorraine Lewis of Charles City; two sons: Allen (Carolyn) Lewis of Eldridge, Iowa and Jason Lewis of Waterloo, Iowa; grandchildren: Nicholas, Carston, Collin, Madolyn, Dylan, Jackson, and Ashleigh; siblings: James (Norma) Lewis, Aline (Kenny) Schipper, Carol Irving, and Rita (Robert) Gardner; along with many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Colwell United Church of Christ, West St. Charles United Methodist Church, or Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd.
