David Rodamaker

David Raymond Rodamaker, age 91 of Nashua, IA, died Thursday, August 9, 2018, at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral services were held August 13, 2018, at the United Methodist Church in Nashua with Rev. John Tunnicliff presiding. Military interment rites were held at Sunnyside Cemetery in Charles City with Tim Fisher, Jamey Welter, Leslie Graeser, Joe Miller, Steve Cerwinskie and Greg Heidebrink serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron McGregor, Donny George, Lynn Lantow, Rich Nustad and Lyle Usher.

David Raymond Rodamaker was born on November 21, 1926, in Charles City, IA the son of Myron and Clara (Wiltse) Rodamaker. He attended school in Charles City and graduate from high school there. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed at Fort Snelling in Minnesota before being deployed to Seoul, Korea.

On September 22, 1945, he married the love of his life, Leila Johnson in Bassett, IA. To this union, two children were born.

He started and ran his own excavating business all throughout North East Iowa. In David’s spare time he really enjoyed playing fast pitch softball, hunting, fishing, and trapping. He really did have a true passion for the outdoors. David was a past president for the VFW Post #6792 in Nashua, IA. He always supplied the VFW with turtle for their annual turtle feed. He also belonged to the NRA.

David was known for always telling a joke or playing a prank on someone. He had a great sense of humor. You always knew when he was in a room because he would make you laugh. That and many of his other beloved qualities will be missed.

He is survived by one daughter Sandra Rossi of Charles City, IA; one daughter-in-law Linda Rodamaker, of Clarksville; five grandchildren, Michelle (David) Pelletier of Jacksonville, NC, Matthew (Kim) Rossi of Hamburg, NJ, Tamela (Brian) Mayer of Greene, IA, Tabatha (Jessy) Willadsen of Floyd, IA, Teona (Josh Murray) Foster of Nashua, IA; 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Leila Rodamaker; one son, Duane “Deke” Rodamaker three brothers, Jim Rodamaker, Rick Rodamaker, Bob Rodamaker; three sisters Mary Jones, Lillian Fisher, Betty Bonzer; one great-grandson Thomas Meyer; special friend Ruth Miller.
