A Memorial Mass to Celebrate her life will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 13, 2018, at Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City, IA.
Born in Mason City, IA on May 25, 1929, she was the daughter of Mabel and Clarence Marker. She graduated from Rockford High School and later attended Upper Iowa College in Fayette, IA. She married Leonard S. Steffen in 1951. They spent their married life in Charles City, together raising their four daughters, Ann, Jeanne, Karen and Patricia.
Furniture was her true passion. Marilyn worked at Sylvester’s Furniture & Floors for over 25 years where she enjoyed helping customers in the selection of furnishings, floor coverings and draperies. She later worked at Foxen Floors & More. Marilyn was an avid gardener with a green thumb when it came to growing flowers and vegetables. Her other hobbies included sewing, quilting, and making Christmas cookies, particularly gingerbread boys. In addition, she was a longtime member of the Immaculate Conception Church and was active in the Lay Carmelites.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard, her parents, four brothers and one sister. Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Ann (John) Marucheck, Raleigh, NC; Jeanne Steffen, Carrollton, TX; Karen (David) Crouch, Des Moines and Patricia Steffen (Mark Klein) Golden Valley, MN; four grandchildren Joseph (Wendy) Marucheck of Hoboken, NJ, Christopher (Erin) Crouch of Omaha, NE, Kathryn (Jonathan) D’ Souza of Kansas City, MO, and Molly (Evan) Adamek of Rockville, MD; four great grandchildren, Cooper and Gabrielle Crouch, Avery Marucheck and Benedict D’Souza, and numerous nieces and nephews.
