Doris M. Ebert-Simpson

Doris M. Ebert-Simpson, 88, of Charles City, Iowa, and previously from Horton, Iowa, died on Thursday, December 13, 2018, at the Eleventh Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Doris was born on February 18, 1930, in Paxton, Nebraska, the daughter of Gladys (Hurst) and Rudolf Keehn.  Following graduation from high school in Litchfield, Nebraska, she attended Kearney State Teachers College.  Doris taught school in Ravenna, Nebraska.

On May 20, 1951, Doris was united in marriage to Harold Eldon Ebert in Litchfield, Nebraska.  The couple moved to the Waverly area, where they raised their family. Doris worked at Wartburg College in food service and the controller’s office; she retired in 1996.  After 40 years of marriage, Harold passed away on May 24, 1991.  In December of 1993, Doris was united in marriage to Roscoe Simpson in Nashua, Iowa.  Roscoe passed away in October of 2016.

In her earlier years, Doris was a member of Bremer County Farm Bureau Women.   Although she worked outside the house, Doris also really enjoyed homemaker duties.  She always had large vegetable and flower gardens.  She canned, cooked and baked, with bread being one of her specialties.  She also enjoyed sewing and quilting.

Doris is survived by three sons, Terry (Virginia) Ebert of Lingle, Wyoming, John (Kathy) Ebert of Charles City, Iowa and Doug (Peggy) Ebert of Waverly, Iowa; one daughter, Becky (Ray) Holt of Tucson, Arizona; thirteen grandchildren, Tracey Ebert-McDowell, David Ebert, Teryn Tate, Jade Ebert, Ryan Ebert, Melissa Heitz, Brandon Ebert, Rachel Hulbert, Tessa Hanson, Lauren Ebert, Kreig Holt, Dakota Holt and Sabrina Oranchak; 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Irene (Clinton) Smith of Kearney, Nebraska and Marian Schroeder of Ravenna, Nebraska; one brother John (Lorraine) Keehn of Kearney, Nebraska; a brother-in-law, Walter Ebert of Plainfield; a sister-in-law, Norma Geweke of Waverly; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Harold and Roscoe; two sisters, Marjorie Lammers and Nola Brown; and one brother, Delmar Keehn.

Funeral services will be held on at 10:30 am on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly. Burial will follow in Horton Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly.
