Betty Jane Kelleher

Betty Jane Kelleher, age 95 of Nashua, IA, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2018, at her home.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018, at the First Congregational Church in Nashua, with Rev. Dennis Bachman, presiding. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Friends may greet the family 4-7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 2018, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home – Olson Chapel in Nashua. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Betty Jane Kelleher was born January 9, 1923, in Nashua, IA, the daughter of Walter and Isabelle Smith. In Betty’s youth, Walter and Isabelle passed away and she was raised by her aunt, Maude Hanson. She received her education in Nashua and was a 1940 graduate of Nashua High School. While working at the former Oliver Corporation in Charles City, she met Lee Hahn and the couple was married in 1951. To this union a son, Doug and a daughter, Becky was born. Lee later passed away in 1972. Betty continued working for 17 years at the Nashua High School in the cafeteria and later at Casey’s General Store in Nashua. She met Harold Kelleher and the couple was married in 1983. The couple was married 22 years until Harold’s passing in 2005.

Betty was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church in Nashua where she served the congregation in several capacities. She was a member of the R.E.S.T Club, the Women’s Club and one of the first members of the Nashua Country Club. She loved cooking, baking, and entertaining family and friends, playing cards, but especially loved her family and the time she spent with them. She will be greatly missed by them all.

Survivors include: one son, Doug Hahn of Nora Springs, IA; one daughter, Becky (Bill) Schmidt of Charles City; step-children: David (Carol) Hahn, Hal (Judy) Kelleher, Kendall (Tina) Kelleher, Kathy (Wayde) Henry, Warren (Janice) Kelleher, Millie (Richard) Liddle, Elda (Dewy) Gilbert, Peggy (Galen) Hall; two grandchildren, Tonia (Phillip) Knighten & Trevor Thein; several step-grandchildren including Aaron Bercegeay and Brian Bercegeay of Louisiana; two great-grandchildren; many step great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both her husbands; daughter-in-law, Cindy Hahn; step-daughters, Nancy Shaw and Karen Harris & step-son, Randy Kelleher.
