Charles City: Funeral services for Berdine Majewski, 93, of Charles City will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, at St Mary Catholic Church in Greene with Rev. Msgr Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Charles City.

Visitation at Retz Funeral Home, 519 N. First St. Greene from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m.

Berdine was born north of Bristow in West Point Township on Aug. 30, 1925 to George and Tillie (Miller) Kielman and passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019 at Valley View Care Center in Greene. She received her education in West Point and Coldwater Township School and graduated from Greene High School in 1942.

After graduation she taught 10 years in rural schools in Butler and Floyd Counties. Also taught CCD for 10 years at St. Mary Catholic Church in Greene.

On Feb. 19, 1949, she was united in marriage to Melvin Majewski at St. Mary’s Parsonage in Greene by Father Boyle. They were blessed with two sons. They farmed and raised their sons on a farm northeast of Greene (Powersville vicinity) until they retired in 1987 when they moved to Charles City.

Berdine and Melvin were interested in attending many of their grandchildren’s activities, also outdoor work, watching birds, doing puzzles, baking, cooking, canning and riding her bicycle.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and St. Rita’s Circle in Greene, and Immaculate Conception Church and St. Michael’s Circle in Charles City. She was also a former member of the Hobby Club, Chat-a-Bit, and Heritage Club and went on many trips.

Berdine is survived by two sons: Dennis (Pam) Majewski, Greene; Duane (Robin) Majewski, Greene; four grandchildren: Tricia (Chase) Schrage, New Hartford; Jenna (Kane) Lindsey, Woodbury, MN; Tyler (Rachel) Majewski, Waverly; Melissa (Brian) Johannsen, Dike; great grandchildren: Trey, Mason, Louis, Callen, Drake, Luke, Mira, Hank and a baby Majewski due in February; two sisters: Tilleen Litterer, Charles City; Caroline Schafer, Greene; sister-in-law Darles Kielman, Rockford; many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin; her parents; three brothers: Otto (Hazel), Henry (Maxine Chesnut), and George; sister: Lorraine (Melvo) Majewski, and a sister in infancy, Deona; brothers-in-law: Clarence Litterer, Roger Schafer, Lloyd Majewski, Lewis (Phyllis) Majewski.
